Welcome to the Stellen Beauty Journal! Today, we are tackling the one makeup step that strikes fear into the hearts of many: winged eyeliner.

Whether you want a subtle lash enhancement or a bold, dramatic cat-eye for a night out in Nairobi, mastering your liner is all about technique and patience. Here are my top three studio secrets for getting that wing sharp enough to cut glass:

  • 1. Prep Your Canvas: Eyeliner needs a dry surface to grip. Always prep your eyelids with an eyeshadow primer and a light dusting of translucent powder. This stops the liner from transferring or melting into your crease, especially on warmer days!

  • 2. Map It Out With Your Eyes Open: Looking down into a mirror completely changes your eye shape. Instead, look straight ahead into a mirror, relax your face, and draw a tiny dot where you want the tip of the wing to end. Then, just connect the dots back to your lash line.

  • 3. Choose Your Weapon Wisely: Liquid liner is amazing for sharp wings, but it sets incredibly fast. If you are a beginner, try using a dark brown eyeshadow with a thin angled brush first to trace out the shape. Once you are happy with the symmetry, trace over it with your liquid liner.

Still struggling to get both eyes perfectly even? Remember, your eyes are sisters, not twins! But if you want to take the guesswork out of your everyday glam, book a 1-on-1 Makeup Masterclass with us at the Stellen Beauty World studio. We will sit down together and map out the absolute perfect eyeliner technique for your unique eye shape.

Stay glowing!
